Two Core Pillars of the Project
Land Base – “The Preserve”
A designated Traditional Land Use Preserve ensures a protected space for ceremonies, harvesting, land-based education, and cultural events. Swan River First Nation recognizes that our culture is rooted in the land, and maintaining this land base is vital to authentic, long-term cultural preservation.
Education
The project places strong emphasis on youth engagement. By integrating culture into learning, the program strengthens identity and community pride. It aims to involve members of all ages, fostering knowledge sharing through hands-on learning, culture camps, and family participation.
Words from Leadership
“This project will be an exercise in community rebuilding. It will take everybody out of their homes and bring them together as we once were… We want to reverse the effects of residential schools—we want to put the Indian back in the child.”
Elder Teachings & Oral Histories
Our Elders are the heart of our knowledge systems. This section will feature:
